Data Engineer

Tetra Tech is looking for a Data Engineer with knowledge and experience managing and transforming data into accessible formats for analysis. This includes designing and optimizing data infrastructure and database management systems across projects. The Data Engineer understands information technology and data and is the expert who manipulates data in different formats to make it available to project teams. Beyond internal infrastructure, the data engineer advises project teams on client-deliverable technologies and leads the development and delivery of these solutions.

The ideal candidate is an experienced data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, manage, and maintain large relational databases, including data pipeline architecture
  • Develop and support solutions created through Microsoft Azure (Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Apache Spark, etc.)
  • Create data tools for analysts and data scientists that assist in quality control/quality assurance
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of data sources

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or related field; or relevant work experience
  • Python programming skills, especially in areas related to processing data
  • Practical expertise with data acquisition and integration through SQL, extract/transform/load patterns (ETL), and/or database connections 
  • Experience with Enterprise Data Warehouse development, management, and maintenance
  • Strong ability to communicate complex analyses and concepts to non-technical audiences both within and outside of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams

Physical Demands & Work Environment:  
  • Remote during COVID-19 pandemic; hybrid office/remote position afterward
  • Fully remote possible, but periodic in-office training required during the first year of employment
