JOB TITLE:                              Graphic Designer

DEPARTMENT:                       CRS Publishing

SUPERVISED BY:                     Editor in Chief

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Graphic Designer is responsible for synthesizing the visions, needs, and wishes expressed by project managers and other stakeholders for the look and feel of CRS publications and other materials, creating designs that meet these visions and needs, and seeing the materials through production. These materials include retail books for both educators and students, workshop books and supporting materials, PowerPoints, and a range of other materials (catalogs, postcards, pamphlets, brochures, and more) to support other departments. The position also serves the President and CEO’s office, producing materials for Board and client meetings, grant proposals, and other various projects as needed.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
·        Design and produce all materials related to Responsive Classroom workshops in collaboration with the workshop materials developer.
·        Design materials for grants, presentations, and other organizational endeavors in collaboration with the President and CEO, Executive Assistant, or other project manager.
·        Design and produce retail products and packaging materials in collaboration with the project manager.
·        Occasionally support other departments by producing catalogs, brochures, materials needed for conferences and other displays, and other materials in collaboration with the Director of Marketing or other project managers.
·        Produce office materials such as internal forms, business cards, letterhead, and signage as needed by department.
·        Manage and build library of photo, art, and font files.
·        Apprise the Editor in Chief of photography and illustration needs.
·        Oversee the work of any freelance designers and illustrators.
·        Stay informed of the evolving reading habits of and publication mediums used by CRS’s audience.
·        Advise as needed on other organizational materials, including signage and furnishings for offices.
·        Appreciates and values diversity.  
·        Represents CRS positively and professionally in interactions with clients, vendors, and the community at large in both real and virtual interactions.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
·        Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field
·        At least 5 years’ experience in graphic design, preferably in book publishing and preferably in an office setting
·        Knowledge of 1-, 2-, and 4-color printing techniques
·        Illustration and photography experience preferred
·        Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, MS Word, PowerPoint, and web design software
·        Ability to work in both a Mac and PC environment as required by project
·        Strong organizational skills and file management abilities
·        Receptive to direction, feedback, and editing from people with varying roles and backgrounds
·        Deadline-oriented with the ability to prioritize work to meet project due dates
·        Ability to juggle multiple projects at one time
·        Strong attention to detail
·        Assists with general publications tasks as needed
·        Perform effectively as a team player in a highly collaborative work environment
·        Maintain regular and reliable attendance
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
·        Ability to use a computer for up to 8 hours per day, with breaks and lunch.
·        Ability to talk on the telephone for up to 1 hour per day.
·        Ability to lift 30 pounds on occasion.
