FAMILY SUPPORT ADULT COMPANION/RESPITE STAFF (PART-TIME)

The Charles River Center is a nonprofit organization and leader in supporting/advocating for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are looking for motivated and passionate candidates to join our Family Support team. Candidates must be flexible, as the duties of this position often fluctuate. INTRODUCTION
Adult Companions are responsible for providing support, supervision, and socialization for an individual with ID/DD in his/her home, in their family home or in the community. Schedules are to be arranged with the family receiving the services.

DESCRIPTION
In need of a Companion to support a young man in a wheelchair who lives in Newton, MA. This individual needs a companion to take him out for walks and is a very “happy go lucky” person. He is looking for companionship and friendship.

SCHEDULE: 4-10 hours per week/Days are flexible

RATE: $20/hr

PRIMARY DUTIES
-Provide support for the individual as needed. This may include assistance with meals and activities of daily living according to the support and supervision needed. 
-Demonstrate effective use of Positive Behavioral Supports.
-Integrate the individual into the community & participate with them during community-based activities as requested.
-Perform light housekeeping tasks that are incidental to the care and supervision of the individual in his/her home. 
-Perform other duties as assigned. 
-Complete a unique progress note for each shift.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
-High school diploma or equivalent required.
-Successful completion and maintenance of the following trainings: CPR and First Aid; Human Rights; Universal Precautions; Mandated Reporting; DPPC; Fire Safety and Vehicle Safety.
-Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release information concerning allegations from Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Disability Services (DDS), and other agencies.
-Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
-Driver’s License that is valid in Massachusetts and reliable personal transportation.
