Research Associate, Translational Head and Neck Cancer Research Laboratory

The MGH is an internationally renowned cutting-edge research hospital. The available position would offer the associate the opportunity to be involved in high-quality head and neck cancer translational and immunology research. Specifically, the research associate would contribute to several ongoing projects by processing patient samples and providing human cells, plasma, and DNA to researchers who are studying different aspects of head and neck cancer and the human immune response to cancer cells. This position is ideal for graduating or graduated seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or research.
 

We are interested in hiring an enthusiastic individual with a sound understanding of cell biology and a strong interest in immunology and cancer biology.  The candidate must have exceptional organizational skills, possess the ability to work within a team atmosphere, have good communication skills, and is detailed oriented. 
 

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: 
 
The Research Associate is a full-time position that functions independently with minimal supervision to carry out experiments for Senior laboratory personnel in a research laboratory. Primary responsibilities are to process human tissue and blood samples, maintain a tumor bank, and conduct routine experiments under the supervision of the project head and/or the PI of the laboratory.
 
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
·       Receiving and processing patient blood and tissue samples, following established 
standard operation  procedures and bio safety regulations for working in a bio safety level 2 lab.
·       Separation of immune cells from blood for investigators’ use.
·       Harvesting and storing human tissue samples.
·       Proper handling, freezing, thawing, storage, and database cataloging of samples. 
·       Maintains a human tumor bank
·       Ensuring quality control of equipment and proper preparation of reagents. 
·       Keeping highly-organized and detailed records of samples received and processed. 
·       Data entry, checking consistency of data, and database quality control.
·       Ordering basic lab supplies for the laboratory.
·       Organize and present findings at laboratory meetings.
·       Assist senior laboratory personnel with their experiments.
·       Assist with animal work.

EDUCATION: 
 
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree preferred with a science/biology major.
 
EXPERIENCE:
New graduates with some lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) will be considered
Minimum 2 years of directly related experience preferred
Highly organized and has an attention to detail is required
Tissue culture experience preferred
