Princeton University Press (PUP) seeks a highly analytical, organized, process and design-oriented Studio Coordinator to support the Creative Media Lab team. In close collaboration with the Assistant Creative Director (Books), the Studio Coordinator manages the creation of cover designs. They compile and track materials, manage cover design schedules, schedule concept and review meetings, and run database reports. In addition, they will learn to prepare files for print and digital production and will perform other support duties as specified below. 
 
This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits and can be 100% remote or hybrid. While remote candidates may be considered for this opening, there is a preference for candidates who can work a hybrid schedule (e.g., some days a week working from home and in the Princeton office) for networking and professional development opportunities.
 
Core Responsibilities:
·        Uses database to track status of cover designs and to proactively manage deadlines. 
·        Tracks the status of preparatory materials for cover design, schedules jacket concept and review meetings, collates support materials for concept and review meetings, and enters deadlines into scheduling software. 
·        Secures high-resolution images from vendors, writes jacket art credit lines, and conducts image research for the design department.  
·        Processes invoices and maintains contact information for image vendors and freelance cover designers. 
·        Learns to compile and organize the materials needed for freelancers to complete jacket and/or paperback mechanicals. This includes monitoring schedules in the database to ensure freelancers meet deadlines. 
·        Carefully reviews freelancer-generated proofs to ensure printer specifications and logo guidelines have been met. 
·        Ability to read proofreading marks on printed proofs and to communicate those changes clearly using the mark-up tools in Adobe Acrobat. 
·        Learns to convert jacket files from jacket format to paperback format and prepare them so that they are printer-ready. 
 
Position Requirements:
·        Education: An undergraduate degree in graphic design or a closely-related field is strongly preferred. 
·        Experience: A minimum of 1 year of print design/pre-press experience or equivalent experience through an internship or work-study experience. 
·        Strong understanding of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat on a Mac platform with a portfolio demonstrating proficiency in art production work. 
·        Excellent organization skills with the ability to multitask and efficiently track multiple projects in various stages of progress. 
·        Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external partners. 
·        Ability to work well both independently and with others and to synthesize feedback. 
·        Fully conversant in relational databases including the ability to run and modify reports in various formats and to update schedules 
·        Facility with large numbers of details and the ability to proactively manage workload. 
·        Process-oriented, analytical problem-solving orientation; interest in making systems run efficiently. 
·        Deadline-oriented mindset. 
·        A genuine interest in and intellectual engagement with the publication of scholarly books.

·        Ability to work a hybrid schedule (e.g., work from home and in the Princeton office) preferred.

Base Salary: $45,000/year plus comprehensive benefits package. Starting salary may be negotiable based on relevant skills and prior experience.
