Research Technician I, Microbiota and Colorectal Cancer Research—Bullman Lab

Overview

Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.

At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. The core mission of our laboratory is to improve diagnosis and treatment of human cancer to ultimately extend the lives of cancer patients, with a particular focus on gastrointestinal cancers. Using cutting edge technologies and methodologies, we endeavor to move smoothly between large human data sets and in vivo and in vitro model systems to gain a deeper functional understanding of the tumor microbiome in cancer progression, metastasis and response to treatment.

The Bullman Laboratory in the Human Biology Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is recruiting a highly motivated Research Technician I with expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology (library preparation and associated analysis) and general microbiology (microbial culture/media preparation, nucleic acid isolation/manipulation) to join our tumor microbiome efforts. The position is intended to provide support for our day-to-day sequencing projects and ongoing microbial technology developments, as well as supporting general laboratory responsibilities.
