Publishing Assistant (temporary)

TEMPORARY POSITION (through end of March 2022) – PUBLISHING ASSISTANT: SOCIAL SCIENCES & INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Publishing Assistant will serve as the assistant to the Senior Acquisitions Editor and Associate Editors to support the development of the program. This position is responsible for providing administrative and editorial support for the organization and project management of active and growing subject areas. Responsibilities include hands-on editorial tasks related to manuscripts, external communication with our publishing partners, and communication between various departments, such as production, finance, and marketing. The Publishing Assistant will report directly to the Senior Acquisitions Editor.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in a field of the humanities or social sciences
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Proficient at Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Previous editorial experience (undergraduate and freelance included) a strong plus
• Professional motivation and intellectual enthusiasm with an entrepreneurial spirit
• Goal- and results-oriented mentality
• Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with a diverse and international audience, externally and internally
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Updating and maintenance of project pipelines, periodically to be shared with series editors
• Sending peer review invitations, processing submitted peer reviews, and handling related correspondence
• Updating the database with contact information, project data, etc.
• Preparing (under the direction of the Associate Editors), book manuscripts for production, including the gathering of license-to-publish forms and permissions when necessary
• Corresponding with authors, volume editors, peer reviewers, journal editors, and series editors regarding various editorial and administrative matters
• Ordering and tracking of complimentary print copies
• Requesting and monitoring payments to our publishing partners
• Assisting with communications to marketing regarding e-bulletins, forthcoming publications, catalogs, flyers, social media, the website, and conferences
