Director, Data Engineering & Data Governance Platforms

That’s where you come in, we are looking for a dynamic leader to lead our North America Data Engineering team and Global Data Governance platforms team as part of our Data and Analytics Engineering organization. For the right candidate, Circle K can offer a challenging and rewarding role working with a talented, global team. In this role you will own creating data delivery solutions for various strategic initiatives – Merchandise pricing, Assortments, promotions, and Loyalty, to name a few; and setting up tooling for Data Governance program.
The Director, Data Engineering & Governance platforms will be responsible for leading a global team of world-class Data/BI engineers & Software engineers to deliver solutions in support of the company’s data-driven strategy.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with various Business function teams, data science team to build high quality, performant solutions that ensure stakeholder groups have access to the data they need.
  • Define a set of standard technologies & tools for the data platform, and drive the adoption, implementation, and ongoing sustaining of the data platform.
  • Collaborate with Data Strategy & Governance team in defining the strategy for our data governance program.
  • Own defining & executing the technology strategy for our Data governance program and setting up the required Data Governance tooling.
  • People management of Data engineers, Software Engineers & BI Engineers:  hiring, performance management, talent development, and maintaining a healthy team dynamic
  • Representing the engineering team on multiple project teams to ensure alignment on expectations and meeting commitments
  • Able to get things done without formal authority or reporting relationships, working across functions seamlessly, geographies and levels to get things done.
  • Enhancement of existing and development of new standards, best practices and frameworks that ensure repeatable and scalable solutions to deliver data to the enterprise (e.g. dev ops, CI/CD, peer code reviews, knowledge sharing, support model, etc.)
  • Budget/financial management
  • Participation in Scrum ceremonies with ability to lead as needed
  • Providing strategic technical direction to the team
  • Staying up to date on trends and technologies related to big data and analytics and making recommendations for data platform improvements
Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in managing engineering teams to deliver enterprise data solutions using Data Lake, Data warehousing and Business Intelligence capabilities.
  • At least 3 years of experience hiring and mentoring high caliber, data focused engineers with diverse technical strengths and background.
  • At least 2 years of experience and technical knowledge of Data Governance and Data Lineage tools like MDM, Meta data management and Data Quality tools.
  • Deep experience with data engineering, big data and analytical technologies using cloud-based data platforms
  • Expertise in SDLC (systems development life cycle) / Iterative / Agile / Scrum development
  • Ability to work with ambiguity as the organization continues to evolve
  • Strong leadership skills to move the team through a major change, initiative to drive change forward and identify solutions to potential obstacles
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to work collaboratively with business and Global Tech stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a global team, understanding how to navigate cultural differences in workstyles, communication, etc.
  • Strong people management skills to help develop team members in the competency-based org structure
  • Ability to manage team and stakeholders that are remote in both North America and Europe
  • Flexibility to work across time zones
