Teaching Assistant
BalletRox is seeking a part-time dance teaching assistant for our BalletRox External Partners Program. BalletRox works with Boston Public Schools, private schools, and after-school programs. There are confirmed partnerships with Mather School, Roger Clap School and Henderson Inclusion School all located in Boston, MA. Most of these positions will be following the Boston Public Schools calendar from September 2021 to June 2022 and operate during the normal school day hours. Please note that BalletRox is actively searching for more external partners for the upcoming school year. We will consider additional applicants who may have in-school and after-school availability in the case that new partnerships arise. We will also keep in mind applicants available for substitute teaching openings.
The hours for the positions available are listed below. The pay will be $25/hr. There are also benefits available to all teachers depending on working hours which can be discussed further with administration (PTO, EBHRA, retirement, etc.). The times have yet to be fully confirmed, and pending early teacher hiring might be able to adjust within reason to the teacher’s schedule. Inclusive training for diverse students will be given to all teachers.
Mather School:
- Wednesdays, 4 classes each day, 5.75 hours per week in total (9:45AM to 3:00PM)
- Grades K2 classes for the Spring semester.

Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Supporting dances lessons from a variety of dance genres that are inclusive and are reflective of the diverse student body
- Helping lead instructor with weekly classes and recital support
- Substitute teaching when lead teacher is unavailable
- Attending meetings with other BalletRox staff
- Monitoring student progress through individual student assessments at the beginning and end of the year
- Being flexible with multiple teaching offerings pending partner and local health restrictions (hybrid, in person, etc.)
Requirements:
- Strong interest in equity based dance education and promoting intersectional racial equity externally and throughout the organization
- High School degree
- Punctual and able to be proactive when needing coverage
- Knowledge and background of any dance genre (Tap, Hip hop, Jazz, Ballet, etc.)
- Must successfully complete a CORI form.
- Strong and independent work ethic
- Experience with teaching dance is appreciated, but open to professional dancers.
