Urban Advantage Program Coordinator

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education, and exhibition. The Gottesman Center for Science Teaching and Learning brings together in one organizational structure all the Museum's activities directed towards K-12 schools and teacher education. Urban Advantage is a partnership program in science education that involves eight New York City science-rich cultural institutions and currently serves over 320 public schools, and over 1000 science teachers in grades 3 through 8. Urban Advantage is looking for a motivated and teamwork-oriented person to join their creative work environment. The Urban Advantage Program Coordinator will work with a friendly, creative, and fun team of educators and developers, in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. and assist in day-to-day support and coordination of all aspects of the Urban Advantage initiative's operations. This position will assist the core team on delivery of both onsite and online program components and events. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, have strong organizational skills, be able to prioritize while working on multiple projects. and demonstrate the ability to see projects through to completion while working independently. The successful candidate will develop a robust understanding of the Urban Advantage program to help coordinate its components. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Making logistical arrangements for onsite and online project meetings, events, and related activities, often with participants at multiple locations including AMNH and other sites, including professional learning workshops and events for administrators and families.
● Communicating customized messages to participants using mail merge software.
● Assisting with development and updating of UA digital and printed materials.
● Coordinating aspects of UA's distribution of classroom equipment and materials to UA stakeholders.
● Assisting the UA AMNH management team in planning large outreach events.
● Assisting with distribution of free vouchers, and monitoring tracking, reporting, and reimbursement of vouchers used by UA stakeholders.
● Coordinating with the purchasing team on work with vendors and ordering supplies.
● Working closely with the Urban Advantage Director, Assistant Director, Senior Manager, and the UA team, and with other AMNH education staff.
● Performing other duties as required, with a high level of independence, with Gottesman Center staff, internal museum departments and high-level staff from outside the institution while maintaining confidentiality.
● Attending and participating in monthly partner meetings and other meetings as determined.
● Completing other duties as assigned by UA program leadership.
● Availability to work some weekends and evenings.


Required Qualifications:
● Associates degree in a related field.
● Three years of professional experience in a related position.
● Advanced ability with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new programs and digital platforms quickly.
● Detail-oriented and meticulous with a high level of organization.
● Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communications skills.
● Ability to see projects through to completion while working independently.


Preferred Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
● More than 3 years of professional experience in a related field.
● Experience planning large events.
● Experience with data management and databases.
● Experience using Moodle (or other educational platforms) and Mail merge software.
