Research Support Assistant, level 1 (Division of Geriatric Psychiatry) (210-2022-02)

The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Nathan Kline Institute (NKI) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to provide research and administrative support for the staff and its ongoing studies. The Geriatric Psychiatry Division's research focus is on memory and cognition in the aging population; also as part of NIH-funded project, testing if reduction in depressive symptoms reduces biomarkers associated with increased risk for Alzheimer's disease in elderly depressives.
This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in gaining research experience and working in a clinical setting prior to graduate school, medical school, or residency. The RA will be working directly with both cognitively normal and cognitively-impaired elderly population, some of whom have limited memory and language abilities or Alzheimer's disease, as well as individuals with Major Depressive Disorder.
NKI is located close Bergen County NJ, Westchester and Orange Counties NY, and NYC. The expected start date of the position is February 2022.
This position may also require spending time at NYU. The duties at NKI remain the same.
JOB DUTIES:
RESEARCH SUPPORT
The RA's primary responsibilities include subject recruitment, testing participants with a standardized neuropsychological battery, data entry and management, as well as organizing subject study visits.
Duties may include:
-Preparing patient visits folders, assisting with tablet-based visit components, and maintaining patient records
-Collecting intake information, vitals, possibly ECG and phlebotomy (if certified)
-Administering and scoring standardized clinical assessments for PI initiated memory study, NIA-funded grant study as well as clinical trials (tests include MMSE, BDI, GDS, RBANs, and similar scales)
-Data entry and database management for PI initiated study, grant study and clinical trials
-Attending weekly meetings with PI and study staff as well as preparing patient reports
-Scheduling patient appointments and managing the patient/visit calendar for the division
-Recruiting patients and chart review for recruitment.
-Accompanying patients to study-related visits outside of NKI (i.e., MRI appointment)
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
The RA will also be asked to provide assistance to the Office Administrator as needed with regulatory work, IRB submission/preparation, and research protocol management.
Duties may include:
-Regulatory filing, binder preparation, and study maintenance
-Corresponding with patients and their families as well as local doctors and other research colleagues
-Assisting with community outreach and community events
SCHEDULE
-Full-time. 5 days (9am to 5pm).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Psychology or a related field. Recent graduate students (MS/MA) in the Psychology, Neuroscience or related fields are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
Previous research experience in an academic or professional setting is a requirement. Preference will be given to candidates with clinical research experience. Will train for clinical testing, but familiarity with various rating scales a plus.
Desired Skills:
We are seeking an individual who is independent, dedicated, organized, detail-oriented, and efficient; has strong time-management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills; is a quick learner and flexible team player; takes initiative; enjoys interacting with the elderly population; and has an interest in the behavioral sciences. Must have strong writing/proofreading/editing/verbal communication skills (English fluency required). Proficiency in Spanish reading/writing is a plus.
Must be proficient with computers, software programs (Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint) and have intermediate knowledge of data programs (SPSS). Knowledge of Facebook and internet/social media is a MUST. Proficiency and/or experience with basic statistics/computer programming is a plus.
Must be willing to travel to NYC.
