GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
Our laboratory is interested in the pathogenesis and development of treatment for brain injury after cardiac arrest. Successful candidate for this position is expected to perform animal experiments including performing anesthesia and minor surgery in mice, neurological function assessment, and ex vivo and in vitro assessment of tissue and cellular injury to examine the effects of therapeutic intervention to improve neurologic outcomes after cardiac arrest. 
 
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
Please note, the functions below are representative of major duties that are typically associated with these positions. Specific responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Similarly, not all duties that have been outlined will be assigned to each position.  
  • The handling of mice and carrying out relevant procedures on mice
  • Common laboratory techniques include RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, Western blots and protein isolation, sterile tissue culture, genotyping, mouse dissection, and echocardiography 
  • The research technician will be involved in all aspects of the research process from designing and executing experiments, to analyzing and presenting data, to writing final research papers 
  • Maintains laboratory notebook 
  • Participates in weekly lab meetings and present data
  • Understands and applies basic scientific techniques 
  • Conducts analysis of results and may begin interpretation of results 
  • Sets up and prepares routine experiments as directed 
  • Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment 
  • Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation 
  • Maintains and orders supplies 
 
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
This position is ideally targeted towards a candidate interested in pursuing a career in academic medicine or biomedical research, but all that are interested are encouraged to apply. Our laboratory has mentored numerous students as they transition to either medical school or graduate school. Dr. Ichinose is an anesthesiologist and physician-scientist and a full professor at Harvard Medical School. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Must be highly organized
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills
  • Understanding of laboratory practices and procedures preferred

EDUCATION: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

EXPERIENCE: 
  • New graduates with some lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.
  • Prior molecular biology lab experience is strongly recommended, but not required
  • 2-year commitment is preferred.
