Public Health Clinic Charge Nurse

The Public Health Clinic Charge Nurse works in the Department of Health executing professional public health nursing practices while coordinating daily activities in maintaining the effectiveness and efficiency of the Health Department’s clinical services.

The Health Department operates various preventative medicine clinics that include sexual health, international travel, school-age children’s immunizations and school physicals, adult immunizations, tuberculosis testing, and seasonal influenza immunizations. The Public Health Clinic Charge Nurse’s responsibilities may also include community-based assignments, which would require work to be performed in a community setting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:
Graduation from an accredited National League of Nursing (N.L.N.) program with a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing, or a diploma from a three-year hospital school of nursing, or an Associates’ Degree in nursing; Two years full time employment in nursing within the past five years, with experience in a clinic or ambulatory care setting, public health, pediatric or emergency room nursing or related specialty.
 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing;
  • Knowledge of the principles of the behavioral, social, and public health sciences;
  • Knowledge of current community health issues.
  • Current knowledge of medicines, vaccines, and storage requirements.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including data entry, electronic health records, and Microsoft Office.
  • Possession of at time of application, and ability to maintain the following: a valid, current Registered Nurse License issued by the State of Connecticut,
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification,
  • Current Connecticut driver’s license.
  • Spanish / English bilingual candidates desired.
