Camp Fire Scholarship System Development

Since 1965, over 220,000 AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program have joined the fight against poverty by helping local organizations expand their capacity to make change. The VISTA program serves in each of the 50 U.S. states and in all U.S. territories.

Through capacity building activities such as fundraising, grant writing, research, and volunteer recruitment AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program serve in an office setting and gain experience and leadership skills. This opportunity prepares members for a life of service in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.

Camp Fire Alaska is the largest youth development agency in the state. Camp Fire Alaska strongly believes that every child should have the experience of summer camp and have the opportunity to find their spark alongside their peers. The scholarship program ensures that families in need are able to access quality youth development programming.

The Scholarship Outreach and Engagement VISTA Member will focus on evaluating the scholarship process at Camp Fire Alaska, identifying areas of need and potential growth. Building and strengthening community partnerships will be a large part of completing this work. The VISTA Member will have three major goals, which are to: Establish a story collecting process and story bank to support the marketing and development of scholarships, build a network of partners and donors to support various donations for families in need, and create a plan for supporting families throughout the scholarship process. This role will serve within the development and marketing departments.
