Descriptive Summary
Senior Systems developers are responsible for designing, developing, and testing core system components within Onpoint’s Claims Data Manager system (CDM). CDM is a cloud-based web application that leverages big data technologies to transform, and make accessible, massive amounts of healthcare data to Onpoint staff, Onpoint’s clients and researchers around the country. The Senior Systems Developer plays a vital role in the continued success of Onpoint by ensuring that Onpoint’s solutions are intuitive, efficient and cost effective, allowing Onpoint to remain the market leader in delivering healthcare data management services. As a Senior System Developer, you will work with a group of talented developers and healthcare data experts to build industry leading applications and leverage the latest technologies to tackle complex data management problems. You will also serve as a mentor and role model for junior developers, while owning the solutioning for key CDM components.
 
Responsibilities
·       Own the design and modification of key system modules, collecting input from other developers and technical staff
·       Use industry best practices to extract and transform data from data lakes using Spark SQL
·       Write and run SQL queries to understand system behaviors and data anomalies-use a library of useful queries to gain efficiencies
·       Troubleshoot and triage system and data issues and create thoroughly documented bug tickets for the development team to develop code fixes
·       Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new systems or hardware, and to upgrade and improve performance
·       Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements
·       Consult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals, or technical issues, such as software system design or maintenance
·       Prepare reports or correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, or status
·       Recommend, test and evaluate new software and tools
·       Deploy software tools, processes and metrics
·       Convert complex specifications into working code
·       Write and implement smart, efficient, practical code
·       Work closely and effectively with other developers, UX designers, business, and systems analysts
·       Write, execute and automate system testing in order to verify the functionality of the CDM system
·       Work with clients to securely move data between Onpoint and external data recipients
·       Take the lead in Onpoint process improvement initiatives
·       Write useful, clear and accurate documentation for systems and end users
 
Other
·       Understand the value that Onpoint places on maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of our corporate and client data and meet applicable privacy and security compliance requirements
·       Ensure that Onpoint and client data is accessed, handled, processed, transmitted, disclosed, and stored according to operational and IT policies and procedures
·       Immediately report any suspected or actual violation of privacy and security policies or unauthorized access or disclosure of Onpoint or client data
·       Understand that compliance with all privacy and security policies, laws, and regulations is part of each employee's annual performance evaluation
·       Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Onpoint Health Data Employee Handbook
·       Perform all other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility
·       Senior Systems Developers should be a role model and mentor for junior developers, providing feedback on technical solutions and advice on areas of improvement

QUALIFICATIONS
·       A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field
·       5+ years of experience in application development using languages such as Java, SQL, or Python
·       Familiarity with Web App development technologies and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Javascript, Spring, and React
·       Familiarity with AWS serverless infrastructure (Lambdas, step functions, CloudFormation)
·       Experience with Hadoop, SparkSQL, Amazon EMR, Parquet, Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshfit
·       Experience designing and working with databases and complex data structures
·       Experience performance tuning - analyzing log data and query tuning, partitioning, optimizing code
·       Experience with Unix or Linux environments
·       Healthcare data experience is a plus
·       An analytical mindset
