Business Analyst I, Research Administration

Position Summary

Under normal supervision, this position is responsible for providing functional design, system configuration and end user support during the implementation and ongoing operation of the Research Administration Computing (RAC) software used to support WCM’s administrative research operations. The incumbent will work directly with WCM’s central administration and departmental users to gather business requirements, answer questions, set expectations, plan and deliver products and services to meet the user's and WCM's business needs. The incumbent will assist in the development, testing and delivery of new RAC business services.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains functional knowledge of one or more systems or modules of systems to enable the effective delivery of training and user assistance for those modules.
  • Maintain a customer centric service ethic. Maintains strong presentation skills needed to deliver training, application demonstrations and other support activities
  • Analyzes business requirements and develops detailed functional specifications. Reviews the functional specification with the users, fellow analysts and specialists, management, and senior leadership to ensure correctness and consistency.
  • Provide post go-live support for user problems reported to the ITS Service Desk. Documents the correction of support cases in order to increase the support knowledge base which will allow the Service Desk to handle more calls on first contact.
  • Liaise with other business analysts, database analysts, server analysts, developers and programmers, to ascertain the technical problems, test and implement the best solutions.
  • Maintains strong interpersonal communication, problem solving and analytical skills. Is capable of providing support and encouragement to organization undergoing change.


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

Experience

  • Approximately 1-3 years of related experience. 
  • Experience with business analysis experience preferred.
  • Expertise in academic research administration software, workflows and/or processes preferred.
  • Experience in higher Education or healthcare is a plus.
  • Software analysis/support or business process analysis experience desired.
  • Ability to discuss general clinical research attributes and specific Research Administration system capabilities and features preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and 21 CRF Part 11 regulations, and using industry standards for sharing and exchanging medical research data preferred.
  • Expertise in academic research administration software, workflows and processes.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Position requires working in an office environment where some physical discomforts such as dust, dirt, noise and the like are present. Ability to work off-hours and weekends for go-lives, testing and emergencies, as well as light travel between office locations, primarily within NYC is required. Occasional meetings or clinical staff interactions in typical patient care areas may be required though direct patient exposure is not routine. Occasional moving of computer equipment or similar objects up to approximately 25 lbs may be required to expedite projects. 

  • As a member of Information Technologies & Services, you may have exposure and/or access to protected health information (PHI) as part of your normal duties. Access to data within systems that contain significant portions of confidential research and medical records will be necessary to do your job; however, viewing of that information is typically generally incidental, for example, to troubleshooting. With regard to HIPAA and protection of patient's privacy, it is the responsibility of each Information Technologies & Services employee to limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties. In addition to PHI, you will have exposure and/or access to sensitive financial or employee data. All such data should be treated as confidential and access and viewing of this data should be limited to the minimum required to perform assigned duties.
