Overview

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is recruiting a highly motivated individual as a Research Technician to join the Virology Core Laboratory at the North Campus and conduct work to support commercial and basic research studies. Under the general direction of principal investigators, the Research Technician will perform a variety of complex tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Research Technician will be responsible for assisting principal investigators conducting tests and experiments at BSL-2 containment and occasionally also at BSL-3 containment. The individual will assist in developing new procedures and assays to detect viral infection in study specimens and will be expected to document laboratory work to acceptable standards, to assist with purchasing of consumables and to maintain laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, protocols and regulations

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a scientific area or with comparable course; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures. Must have the ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Experience with cell culture, handling of infectious material in BSL-2 containment, viral plaque assays, basic molecular laboratory techniques including: DNA isolation, RNA isolation, Reverse Transcriptase PCR, PCR assays, and Real Time PCR assays

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
