Overview

A full-time Research Assistant II position is currently available in Dr. Andrew Mayer’s laboratory at The Mind Research Network. The Research Assistant will work as part of a team on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded study examining cognitive and neuronal function in neonates, infants and toddlers. The study will involve the recruitment of pregnant people belonging to vulnerable populations into the study and ensuring retention of participants and their children through mid-childhood. The RAII will be primarily responsible for preparing infants and children for MRI scans, as well as screening and scheduling participants, obtaining informed consent, administering structured questionnaires, assisting with EEG assessments, laboratory processing of biological specimens, data entry, data analyses, coordination with study team members at UNM, and other duties as needed. The primary skill set is therefore the ability to successfully interact with (i.e., calm and soothe) infants and toddlers so that high quality data can be obtained. As this position involves working as part of a research team, as well as working with sensitive populations, applicants should have strong communication and interpersonal skills. The job will also require flexible hours to complete data collection, including some evenings and nights.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, psychology, or a related field is required and 6 months or more of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities and have been attained.
 
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes afternoons and evenings. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems.
 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Individuals with 2 or more years of experience working with neonatal, infant, and child populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
