Coordinator II/Project Coordinator - Hybrid Schedule (Infectious Disease Bureau)

CITY OF BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

The Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19 is a two-year federal grant project funded by the Office of Minority Health at the Department of Health and Human Services project for $3.875 million dollars, starting 7/1/2021. Our project has two overarching outcome goals for our focus population, Boston residents who are Black, Latinx, of limited English proficiency, immigrants or members of other marginalized groups: (1) Increase and evaluate acceptability and use of COVID-19-related outreach, service delivery, education and media messaging that reduces inequities in access to COVID-19 prevention and treatment; and (2) based on evaluation findings, develop more effective, culturally competent and replicable outreach and service delivery models for future local public health efforts to reduce health inequities.

The Boston Public Health Commission is partnering with the Mauricio Gastón Institute at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, a minority-serving institution that evaluates programs and informs policymakers about issues vital to the state's growing Latino community. Working with the Gastón Institute, we will conduct a formative evaluation--data analysis, focus groups, key informant interviews, online surveys, social network analysis--to better understand the kinds of social networks, messages, outlets and health literacy approaches through which we can engage our focus populations. Our findings will inform the development of more effective multicultural and multilingual models for engaging communities in public health prevention and treatment activities. These models will be extremely valuable to future vaccination campaigns for other communicable diseases--e.g., influenza--and for increasing health literacy for other prevention, testing, and treatment activities.
