Program Overview:
Program: Camp K is an ACA Accredited Summer Residential Co-ed Camp
Location: Camp K is located in Copper Landing, AK on the Kenai Lake.
Dates: All Staff training begins in mid-May. Camp opens to youth in early June and runs through early August.
Time: Camp K offers several sessions throughout the summer ranging from 4 days to 9 days.
Shifts: Camp K staff reside on camp premises during all camp sessions. Camp sessions range from 4 day/3 nights to 9 days/8 nights throughout the summer. There is personal time between sessions to enjoy the beautiful Alaska summer
Activities: While at Camp K youth are provided hiking, boating activities, outdoor games, art building, target sports, outdoor living skills and team building; as well as horseback riding and river raft trips in nearby areas.
Positions Description:
The Teen Counselor is responsible for minute-to-minute supervision and guidance of a cabin group of older campers (ages 12+), working with other counselors and specialists to facilitate a variety of activities. As a Teen Counselor, you'll have the opportunity to actively participate in leading, teaching, and/or assisting in all teen programming activities as well as in all program areas as needed, such as; swimming, boating, aquatics, target sports, games, etc. You'll also gain valuable experience in planning, developing, and facilitating through the LIT Program that focuses on skill development, goal management, and adopting a growth mindset all while living on the premises of Camp K in the Chugach National Forest with everyday opportunities to be off the grid, experience wildlife, and take in the epic beauty right outside your cabin door!
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Prior experience in trip leading, leading outdoor activities, including lesson planning.
- Prior experience working with teens, preferably in a residential camp setting.
- Knowledge of Leave No Trace principles, outdoor leadership skills, and additional relevant resources.
- Current Adult/Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
- Experience working with diverse populations: multi-cultural, age, gender, etc.
- Twenty-one (21) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Valid Driver’s License and eligibility to drive agency vehicles with ability to drive and maneuver 16 passenger vans and trailer in tow, is preferred.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
