(Remote Summer Internship) Machine Learning Research on a Large-scale Research Platform

Welcome to the Deep Learning Community! Our community predominantly contributes to the deep learning area on 1Cademy, our collaborative research platform. This semester, we will explore natural language processing, which is a branch of artificial intelligence concerned with giving computers the ability to understand text and spoken words in much the same way human beings can. Our team members will dive into the Speech and Language Processing textbook and present what they've been learning throughout each week by walking us through the nodes they have designed during our weekly team meetings. After meeting certain requirements, you will be invited to join our small research group to work on concrete research ideas.

By Joining Us, You Will ...

  1. You will spend the majority of the fall semester going through the Speech and Language Processing textbook to deeply learn about natural language processing. No prior experience is required.
  2. You'll gain experience using crucial skills in research (paper analysis, summarization, making connections between disciplines).
  3. Top contributors to our community would have the opportunity to co-author research papers in the field.
  4. All interactions, task fulfillment, and communications will be online.

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge and enthusiasm for topics related to machine learning and deep learning.
  2. Proficiency in Python (or R) and linear algebra.
  3. Displayed interest in machine learning through university-level coursework.
  4. (Preferred) Previous research experience, or other relevant involvement.
  5. (Preferred) Completion of Coursera Deep Learning Specialization (https://www.coursera.org/specializations/deep-learning) or an equivalent on the topics of primarily deep learning but also machine learning or statistical learning.
  6. (Preferred) Background in Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Responsibilities

  1. Constantly study the previously mentioned textbook, summarize chapters and sections, and share the essence of what you learn with our large research team in a hierarchically organized fashion.
  2. Attend two-hour weekly team meetings to discuss the research and present your efforts throughout the week.
  3. Must be prepared and excited to collaborate with our already established team of computer scientists, information scientists, and statisticians.
  4. All interactions, task fulfillment, and communications will be remote.
