Associate/Senior Associate - China

The Asia Group (“TAG”) is now accepting applications on a rolling basis for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our Washington, DC office.

TAG is a strategic advisory firm that positions clients – ranging from Fortune 500 multinationals to innovative startups – for success in established and emerging markets across the Indo-Pacific region. The Associate or Senior Associate will be an integral member of TAG’s China Practice and will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the firm’s client development and strategy execution on China. A successful candidate will have a strong command of the regulatory, business, and macroeconomic environments in China, and be able to distill these trends into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for commercial stakeholders across a broad range of industries. This position may entail domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research, conceptualize, and draft memoranda and presentations for external (client) and internal (TAG) readership relating to political, economic, and industry trends in China
  • Support day-to-day client communications and deliverables
  • Assist in the creation and support of policy-driven strategies that align with clients’ business objectives in China
  • Provide logistical support for clients and TAG leadership related to engagements in China, Washington, DC, or client sites in other domestic or international locations
  • Participate in events on TAG’s behalf with industry associations, think tanks, and similar institutions

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MA, MBA) or equivalent practical experience related to China
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience (Associate)
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience (Sr. Associate)
  • Outstanding research and writing skills, requiring minimal edits
  • Familiarity with Chinese laws, authorities, and other regulatory frameworks that would affect clients’ operations in China
  • Deep understanding of Chinese regulatory frameworks and stakeholders
  • Experience in government relations or comparable experience, demonstrating the ability to integrate public policy with corporate strategy
  • Demonstrated team player and strong communicator

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (business proficiency preferred)
  • On-the-ground policy work experience and developed networks in China
