Pet Radiopharmaceutical Chemist

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:  
Under direction of the Pharmacy manager at the Institute for Innovation in Imaging Lab, the PET Radiopharmaceutical Manufacturing Technician/Chemist provides a variety of services to support the safe and efficient production and use of PET radiopharmaceuticals for research and clinical diagnostic use at the Martinos Center. The incumbent will be involved in all aspects of the day to day operation of the PET radiopharmaceutical production facility operating under cGMP, including radiochemical production area, analytical laboratory and clean room operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  1. Under cGMP’s, will be responsible for the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals including:
  2. Ordering and receiving Radioactive Isotopes for production.
  3. Setup and preparation of chemicals and reagents.
  4. Assisting Pharmacist in Charge with compounding, processing, and releasing product.
  5. Under cGMP’s, will be involved in the aseptic preparation of PET radiopharmaceuticals in a cGMP clean room environment.
  6. Preparation of sterile filtration assemblies
  7. Environmental monitoring of aseptic processes
  8. Inoculation of sterility media
  9. Under cGMP’s, will be involved in the in quality control and release of PET radiopharmaceuticals
  10. Use of HPLC, TLC, GC, biological and radiometric tests required for release of PET radiopharmaceuticals.
  11. Actively involved in maintenance of cGMP clean room and production facility.
  12. Develop analytical methods for analysis of novel radiopharmaceuticals
  13. Develop synthetic methods for preparation of novel radiopharmaceuticals
  14. Test and document stability of novel reagents.
  15. Involved in inventory management and stocking.
  16. Maintain good Radiation Safety by follow ALARA principles.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 
  • Experience or knowledge of TLC, HPLC and GC
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of universal precautions and infection control
  • Effective interpersonal, writing, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to work in high-pressure situations
 
 
EDUCATION:
Required: High School diploma, GED or equivalent
Preferred:  Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training:  Chemistry or related discipline
Equivalent Experience – please document if educational requirements can be met through equivalent experience:   4 – 6 years of directly related experience required in lieu of Bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE: 
Preferred:    Experience in cGMP pharmaceutical production desired. 
Experience in the handling of radioactive materials, aseptic preparation and clean room experience preferred.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
The Institute for Innovation in Imaging lab in conjunction with the Martinos Center is a PET Radiopharmaceutical compounding facility. Applicant will work with PET Radiopharmaceutical Production in a cGMP facility located in the Martinos Center in Charlestown, MA.
