Commercial Bank- Credit Risk- Middle Market Underwriting, Associate

The Position:
The Associate position is within MMBSI’s Houston region which covers a wide variety of industries and supports our Core and certain Specialized Industry Banking teams. As an Associate in MMBSI Credit Risk, your primary role is to take ownership of your portfolio and to utilize excellent credit skills to work independently on the portfolio of relationships assigned to you. You will appropriately assess the risk in your portfolio, diligently manage the portfolio (i.e. renewals, modifications, managing all credit metrics), and meet customer deadlines. You will be a partner to the bankers in the market, striving to balance sales and credit quality goals.

Responsibilities:
• Structure transactions while balancing risk/reward
• Utilize advanced credit skills to author concise, thoughtful analysis of relationships using appropriate structure and identifying key risks
• Partner with the bankers to develop fulsome client relationships, including being looked to as the go-to person when the banker is out
• Work proactively with internal and external contacts to ensure transactions move forward efficiently
• Lead transactions and partner with senior deal team members on complex syndications and multi-level capital structures
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both internally and externally with clients and prospects
• Independently evaluate smaller relationships to assess risk profile and recommend simple structures that adequately protect the bank

Qualifications:
• BS or advanced degree with business focus
• Completion of a major corporate or commercial bank credit training program and three years of commercial banking experience preferred
• Otherwise, a minimum of five years of experience in commercial banking/lending which might include credit, structuring, and marketing experience
• Significant accounting and finance knowledge
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
