Research Assistant/Technician

 
About this Job:
We are looking for a motivated and organized research assistant/technician to provide scientific support to a team of scientists conducting cutting-edge and translational scientific research in stem cell biology, hematology, and blood disorders. There are opportunities to publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals. The lab is part of the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, the research branch of the New York Blood Center.
 
Responsibilities include:
 
  • Performing cell culture, genomic analysis, histology, flow cytometry and other molecular bench work
  • Handling live mice including blood collection and genotyping.
  • Isolating cells from human and murine tissues
  • Managing laboratory resources, ordering reagents and other lab supplies
  • Managing mouse colonies, including genotyping
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
 
Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Biological sciences, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or a related field. We are looking for a team player who can work well with others both within the laboratory and beyond. Must have previous hands-on lab experience. Expertise with mammalian cell culture, PCR, mouse handling, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, histology, microscopy, ELISA assays and other molecular biology assays would be desired. The ideal candidate would be a quick-learner, who is able to follow new protocols. Competitive salary.
