2022 Reclaim Childhood Summer Internship

Position Description: Summer Internship 2022
Location: Amman, Jordan
Dates: June 22 - August 11, 2022

About Reclaim Childhood
Reclaim Childhood (RC) is a nonprofit working in East Amman and Zarqa, Jordan with the mission to create safe and inclusive spaces for local and refugee girls to thrive by playing sports, working with coaches, and building community. Founded in 2008, RC runs afterschool sports programs, summer camp, and leadership programs.

We work towards that mission in three ways: First, to provide a safe space where girls can “Reclaim Childhood” and just be kids. Second, to connect communities that otherwise may not interact – local Jordanians, refugees, and volunteers from all over the world. Third, to empower and inspire young women by employing the positive impact of sport and play. We believe in the power of sports to teach unique life lessons such as leadership, confidence building, and teamwork while providing strong female role models as coaches from within the local communities.

About the Internship
We have two intern positions available in our 2022 summer intern cohort. Interns will spend the summer working for Reclaim Childhood in Amman, Jordan! The summer internship program allows current college students to experience the inner workings of a small NGO, get hands-on experience with community engagement through sport, and work on their Arabic language learning.

The internship consists of helping organize and facilitate sports programming in two cities in Jordan: East Amman and Zarqa. The summer camp works with local girls aged 6-18 who are either Jordanians or refugees from Syria, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and Palestine. When not at the summer camps, interns contribute to operational tasks for the organization. Examples include grant writing, monitoring and evaluation, communications, and social media. This provides a unique opportunity to see how NGOs really work. Finally, Reclaim Childhood conducts site visits to local community partners so interns can get a better sense of what type of work exists in the international NGO field.

The internship is unpaid. RC strongly encourages applicants to explore funding opportunities from their colleges/universities and will work with you to fulfill the requirements of those funds. Based on your living and travel preferences, your time in Amman will cost between $2,500 and $3,200. This includes the price of airfare, housing, food and transportation outside of work hours, and activities in your free time.

Schedule:
The Reclaim Childhood internship is eight weeks long from June 19 to August 11. Interns are asked to arrive between July 15th and 17th to allow enough time to settle in before their first day of orientation.

Qualifications:
  • Belief in the power of sport and play for youth development - previous experience working with youth is preferred
