DCYF After Hours Social Service Specialist in Training (SSS3) - Newport

This is an on-call, non-permanent position that will work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

We're looking for multiple on-call After-Hours Social Service Specialists to join our team to provide human services to families, working toward the common goal of eliminating child and youth outcome disparities based on race and ethnicity. Our vision is that "All Washington's children and youth grow up safe and healthy-thriving physically, emotionally, and educationally, nurtured by family and community."
 
The Opportunity:
Region 1 is searching for front-line Social Services Specialists who will be responsible for providing case management services to clients and families in the after-hours Unit. You will provide weekend coverage to the entire Spokane area.
These positions may be hired as an "in-training" Social Service Specialists 1, 2, or 3; with the Goal Class being the Social Service Specialist 3 level.
 
Some of what you will get to do:
  • Meet all casework management directives required by law, policy, and other mandates.
  • Perform advanced-level work in the investigation of child abuse and neglect allegations and specialized case management.
  • Investigate allegations, assess complex family situations, and develop plans to protect children either in their own homes or out of home care through the intervention of the court system.
  • Make findings of abuse or neglect based on the results of the investigation.
  • Focus on understanding and respecting the strengths of families including their heritage, cultural beliefs and values, communication, and learning styles.
  • Work independently in devising your own work methods to provide an advanced level of specialized, culturally competent, and solution-focused case management.
  • Utilize the Child Health and Education Tracking (CHET) Screens.
  • Provide accurate and timely entries into FamLink. 
What we are looking for (Required Qualifications)
Although the goal class is a Social Service Specialist 3, we will consider candidates at the Social Service Specialist 1 and 2 levels, with a training plan to advance to a Social Service Specialist 3. The Hiring Manager will evaluate the education and experience of each candidate for one of the following levels:
Possible Combinations
Social Service Specialist 1
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, or an allied field.
Social Service Specialist 2
One (1) year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 1
OR
Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, or an allied field.
Two (2) years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1.
OR
Master's Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, or an allied field.
One (1) year of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1.
OR
A completed practicum
Social Service Specialist 3
One (1) year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2
Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, or an allied field.
Three (3)years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.
AND
One year of paid social service experience must include assessing risk and safety of children and providing direct family-centered practice services.
Master's Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Behavioral Sciences, or an allied field.
Two (2) years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.
OR
A completed practicum 
AND
One year of paid social service experience must include assessing risk and safety of children and providing direct family-centered practice services.
Qualifying Degrees: Anthropology, Child Development, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education, Family Studies, Human Development, Human Service, Law and Justice, Psychology, Pastoral Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Therapeutic Fields, Therapeutic Recreation

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
  • One year of experience assessing risk and safety with regards to child abuse and neglect concerns, or developing safety and service plans with families.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the local community and resources.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team.
  • Ability to speak and interact with clients, community partners, and the general public professionally and courteously.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize information to meet FamLink documentation requirements.
  • Ability to utilize computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
