Assistant Teacher

Job Description
Partner with Lead Teacher in classroom management and curriculum planning as designated to maintain a developmentally appropriate indoor/outdoor preschool classroom. Responsible for management of the classroom in the absence of Lead Teacher. Develop relationships with up to 16 children in the classroom and, to a lesser extent, with all children in the school. Interface with Wellesley College Faculty, Student Teachers, Student Researchers, Parents, and Caregivers, demonstrating a knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Assist in the implementation of Faculty & Student Research and Observations. Assist in the supervision of Team Teacher, Student Teachers, Student Interns, and classroom volunteers. Assist in outdoor and indoor environment design and arrangement.  Participate in evaluation and documentation of classroom activities and children’s behavior.  Attend daily team meetings and designated staff, planning, clinical consultant, parent education, and other ad hoc meetings. Maintain journal of teaching and learning experiences.  Participate in parent conferences and write a portion of children’s conference and progress reports in consultation with Lead Teacher. Take part in annual set-up of classroom and curriculum/classroom clean-up and inventory at close of school year.  Engage in various professional activities in Child Psychology and Early Childhood Education. Attend relevant workshops and seminars. Schedule: 35-hours per week, 39-week position (Late August - late May)

Requirements:
  • MA Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Preschool Teacher Certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience with young children in a professional setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and early childhood education.
  • Fluency in English language.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail.
  • Physical capacity to care for young children.
  • Ability to work effectively in an inclusive, culturally diverse environment.
