Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Commercial Vehicle Services (CVS) is currently seeking a Transportation Planning Technician 3 to serve as the Commercial Vehicle Services Data Specialist in Tumwater, WA. Under the direction of the Commercial Vehicle Services Supervisor, with minimal supervision, this position has oversite and performs duties directly related to the effective and efficient operation of the CVS office and advances WSDOT's mission by validating financial activities including permit revenue to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal laws. This position collects, summarizes and validates data used by the CVS office and other stakeholders. New technology at the weigh stations requires this position to provide transportation study reports to CVS management that are shared with external partners for resource allocation. The Commercial Vehicle Services Data Specialist works with the IT web application developer to write queries for customized reports used for data evaluation. The incumbent in this unique position understands and provides analytical, technical and regulation information to trucking industry representatives, owner/operators, and the Washington State Patrol (WSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers that are relative to vehicle credentials and safety compliance. The Commercial Vehicle Services Date Specialist has the ability to explain the use and best practice of a weigh station bypass in cab notification systems and the functionality of the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR).
