We are looking to bring on board a public health professional to join our team and serve as a Field Epidemiologist to work with the State of Maine CDC Field Epidemiologist Program (The Department).   
 
This position will provide: (1) rapid response and investigation of reportable infectious diseases including potential bioterrorism events, public health threats, and emergencies; (2) education and outreach activities focused on prevention of infectious diseases; (3) strengthening of local public health capacity through collaboration with traditional and non-traditional partners); and (4) participation in routine and outbreak infectious disease monitoring and response activities as a member of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Team.
 
The successful candidate will bring solid experience in epidemiology, capacity building and teamwork. Work is performed under administrative direction.

Knowledge, Qualifications and Skills:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related fields (Nursing, Biology, Community Health etc.), and 4 years of relevant experience in public health
  • Communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
 
Preferred:
A Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field, with coursework in relevant fields and 2 years of relevant work experience.
 
Knowledge of:
·      Principles and practices of epidemiology and public health surveillance
·      Statistics and statistical software
·      Outbreak response activities
·      Health data collection
·      Infectious diseases, including risk and transmission
·      Medical terminology
·      Word processing software, email and internet use, spreadsheets or analysis programs
·      Communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
·      Knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word
·      Strong written and oral communication skills
·      Ability and willingness to travel.
 
Ability to:
·      Analyze infectious disease data
·      Draw logical inferences from data analysis
·      Pay attention to detail
·      Organize, disseminate, and report public health information
·      Work as a team leader and team member
·      Communicate with local and federal partners
·      Work independently, including being a “self-starter”
·      Facilitate groups

Location: The Field Epidemiologist will work out of one of the DHHS regional offices, but may routinely work remote one (1) day per week.   

Job Type: This full-time, 40-hour per week position will be 8am-5pm with on-call responsibilities. This is a grant funded position through January 3, 2023, with anticipated renewals. This position is eligible for MCD’s benefit package.
