Teaching Fellow (AmeriCorps)

AmeriCorps Fellows serve a vital role at Academy Prep! From assisting in the classroom, developing and teaching their own classes, mentoring and tutoring one on one, serving meals, to chaperoning field trips, AmeriCorps members have the unique opportunity to grow and learn in a fun and fast-paced environment! Academy Prep serves middle school students qualifying for need-based scholarships. Students are in school 10-11 hours a day, and have the opportunity to take all kinds of classes in addition to their core academic classes.

Potential position focus areas include: Physical Education Coach, S.T.E.M., Humanities and Operations. Teaching Fellows are servant-leaders* that are interested in participating in the AmeriCorps program and being part of a small, mission-driven independent school serving students who qualify for need-based scholarships. Teaching Fellows serve a vital role at Academy Prep Center of Tampa, and have an opportunity to grow personally and professionally. Many of our Teaching Fellows also continue onward at Academy Prep to either core teaching positions or other long-term roles in our organization. In exchange for their invaluable service to the Academy Prep community, Teaching Fellows receive extensive professional development in a forwarding-thinking, student-centered environment in addition to:

  • Rent-free, fully-furnished apartment (utilities included)
  • Monthly salary and food stipend - $1,275 per month
  • One-time move-in and clothing allowance
  • Employer-paid health insurance coverage and an optional 401(k) with a 5% match
  • Potential to enroll in the AmeriCorps program for eligible applicants, which can additionally provide an Education Award of $6,495 at the conclusion of each year and can be used towards student loan debt (not private) or towards graduate school.

Experience, Skills, and Personal Attributes
  • Bachelor’s degree (in any subject) earned by June 1, 2022
  • Experience working with youth
  • An honest person who will live the school’s values and who effectively blends candor, care, and empathy in dealing with others.

  • A strategic thinker who possesses excellent communication skills and has a high level of emotional intelligence.
