Ramboll is looking for energetic, talented and self-motivated scientists and engineers to join our team of internationally recognized air scientists in the Environment and Health Division. The Emissions and Air Quality Analyst/Engineer performs advanced technical studies to inform major business and public policy decisions and help our clients meet their goals.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in air quality, climate change and emissions development. The Emissions and Air Quality Consultant/Engineer performs advanced technical studies to inform major business and public policy decisions and help our clients meet their goals. This is a highly collaborative full-time position in our Novato, California office, located approximately 25 miles North of San Francisco, which will include a combination of in-office work and telework. You will join our Environment & Health Division

As our new Emissions and Air Quality Analyst/Engineer you will be part of the Air Sciences Group, which is part of Ramboll’s Environment & Health Division. This group consists of people who are passionate about air quality and assisting Ramboll’s clients with their most challenging problems. The Air Sciences Group consults with clients across various industries on a range of topics, including but not limited to emissions estimation and mitigation, air dispersion modeling, human health risk assessment, climate change, climate action planning, climate adaptation/resiliency, sustainability initiatives, permitting, and compliance.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Estimating emissions and energy consumption of air pollution sources
  • Researching and evaluating pollution control measures.
  • Calculating emissions from sources such as on-road vehicles, off-road equipment, and aircraft by applying agency-approved models and tools such as MOVES, EMFAC, OFFROAD, CalEEMod, and GREET.
  • Using emission models and guidance materials to develop air pollution emission rates for emission sources such as marine vessels, locomotives, and stationary point and nonpoint sources.
  • Applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to estimate impacts of projects, construction developments and operations to local and regional air quality.
  • Using data analysis skills to process large quantities of data for technical analysis.
  • Development of programming tools to streamline data processing and calculations.
  • Conducting air quality and greenhouse gas analyses under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Working as a team to contribute technical skills on complex projects
  • Preparation of detailed spreadsheet work products, presentation slide decks, and reports.
  • Critically reviewing and interpreting local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in engineering or science discipline (air quality course work is a plus) with a GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • 0-3 years of emissions, air quality or engineering related experience. Relevant graduate academic experience would count towards this
  • Demonstrated background in numerical analytical work and data analysis
  • Strong written/verbal communication and organization skills to work in multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong computational skills including Advanced Excel (knowledgeable in advanced formulas, pivot tables and charts, VBA, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (OneNote, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience with Python, mySQL, Linux Systems or similar programming languages
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem solving mindset, independent worker, and collaborative
  • Desire to work in engineering calculations and generate high quality clean work products (reports, graphics, presentations)
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting regulations related to air quality and/or climate change.
