Position Summary
The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) provides leadership for carrying out the School of Law’s commitment to creating a diverse community of students, staff, administrators, and faculty in which there are equitable policies, procedures and programming that facilitate an inclusive environment and foster a shared sense of belonging. Further, the Assistant Dean for DEIB will serve as the School of Law’s liaison to the University for any University-wide DEIB initiatives

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy, Vision, and Mission
  • Develop and build consensus around a mission-focused DEIB strategic plan for the School of Law with benchmarks and a process of reporting and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans, and the faculty to develop strategy for monitoring, collecting and assessing data, as it relates to the impact of DEIB initiatives at the School of Law.
  • Facilitate new initiatives and activities that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for law school students, staff, administrators, and faculty.
Student-Related Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs team in planning and implementing DEIB programming for students, including portions of new student orientation and events throughout the academic year
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Experiential Education to implement DEIB programming related to students serving clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Responsible for the Law School’s implementation of University DEI-focused initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Admissions and Academic Affairs teams in planning and executing special programs for entering students from non-traditional and diverse backgrounds to assist them in transitioning to the law school environment. Work closely with faculty and the Academic Success team on this programming.
  • Enhance student success through partnerships with affinity bar associations, other affinity organizations and diverse alumni.
  • Assist the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs Deans in responding to student concerns related to DEIB matters.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Enrollment, participates in efforts to promote DEIB within the Law School through admissions-related initiatives.
Faculty- and Curriculum-Related DEI Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Dean, the Chair of the Professional Development Committee, and the Chair of the Diversity Committee (as well as others designated by the Dean) to plan and implement DEIB programming for faculty.
  • Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and appropriate law school committees to plan and implement curricular initiatives related to DEIB.
Staff- and Administrator-Related DEI Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Associate and Assistant Deans, facilitates and/or provides DEIB-related programming for staff and administrators
Administrative DEI Responsibilities
  • Promotes awareness of and facilitates adherence with University procedures to address bias incidents and/or harassment claims on campus
  • Serve as ex officio member of law school and University committees as assigned by the Dean, including serving as a member of the Law School Leadership Team, ensuring diversity issues are considered and centralized throughout the administrative work of the Law School.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree and a professional certificate or graduate degree .
Two years to five years of experience.

  • Ability to balance multiple complex projects and processes simultaneously.

  • Desire and ability to work effectively with culturally, ethnically and socially diverse student populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). 

Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience.

Anticipated Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm
