Join Oregon’s statewide public health AmeriCorps team to build healthy communities and your career! Lead the development of a community Health Equity Action Plan to advance health equity.

Member Duties 

Support Washington County Public Health with developing a community centered Health Equity Action Plan that includes health equity metrics. This will be done by facilitating progress towards developing a local health equity action plan that leverages the existing Tri-County Public Health Modernization Health Equity Assessment. The Health Equity Action Plan will be developed with continued engagement from regional partners, dedicated funds for community partners and will include metrics and an accountability structure. Health equity and related data trainings will be provided to member.

Some of the duties will include: 1) Attend Health Equity Action Plan and related meetings. 2) Conduct semi-structured interviews with key players. 3) Search for national health equity metrics. 4) Catalog health equity metrics with references. 5) Present health equity metric options. 6) Contribute to writing the health equity action plan. 7) Gather feedback on health equity plan drafts

Program Description

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. ORI Community and Evaluation Services (ORI CES) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving individual and community health and well-being through evaluation and intervention services. For this project, ORI CES will partner with Washington County Public Health to assist in the Healthy Futures objectives by supporting the modernization of the public health system. 

This project is developed to help people out of poverty or break the cycle of poverty by contributing to the Health Equity Action Plan. Together with ORI CES and Washington County Public Health and the AmeriCorps member, we will help in identifying metrics that will inform strategies to advance health equity will give people the support they need to break out of poverty, and address the social determinants of health.
