Behavior and Language Intervention Services (BLIS) Inclusion Teacher

The position for a Behavior and Language Intervention Services (BLIS) Inclusion Teacher will be available at East Central ISD for the 2022-2023 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., June 25, 2022, or until the position is filled.  

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide direct and consultative services to students with autism and related disorders in inclusive, general education settings.To provide support and staff modeling, coaching and feedback for staff in inclusion settings regarding best practices for educating students with autism.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provide individual educational and behavioral support in the general education setting to enable identified students to grow academically and behaviorally. 
  2. Participate in admission, review and dismissal (ARD) committee meetings for identified students, as appropriate. 
  3. Implement services and supports rooted in the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to allow students to remain in the least-restrictive educational setting as outlined in their individualized education program. 
  4. Provide training, consultation and other support activities to staff working with students with autism and related disorders across a variety of settings, such as the cafeteria, gym, etc. 
  5. Develop and implement professional development activities at the campus level as appropriate.
  6. Assist the team in interpretation of progress data for individual students and programs. 
  7. Collaborate with campus staff on functional behavioral assessment (FBA) based on observation of students in school, home, and community environments. 
  8. Work with school staff and parents in teaching replacement behaviors to students based on individual needs. 
  9. Manage student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations.
  10. Create student materials needed for behavior support. 
  11. Facilitate team consultation meetings with classroom teachers, related service providers, administrators, and paraprofessionals. 
  12. Provide behavior training and support for parents as outlined in student IEPs. 
  13. Complete paperwork required by the District for billing services eligible under the Student Health and Related Services (SHARS) Program or Medicaid Administrative Claims (MAC) Program 
  14. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  15. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education. 
  16. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education/Certification:
A Bachelor’s degree and a valid teaching certificate with certification in special education.
Teacher certification- This position will be required to complete 40 hours of coursework of evidence-based, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and strategies for helping students by December 9, 2022. There is no cost for the 40 hour coursework training and you will receive a $1,000 stipend upon completion.

  • Knowledge of unique needs of students in assigned settings
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation
  • Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology 
  • Understanding of ABA behavioral principles as they apply to developing individualized education and behavior plans 
  • Demonstrates competence in developing data collection systems 
  • Ability to diffuse and manage stressful situations 
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures Commitment to maintain confidentiality
 
EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions. Protracted and irregular hours of work. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities: control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.

SALARY: Based on the 2022-2023 Classroom Teacher Salary Scale
