Arts Program Intern

Opportunity Title: Arts Program Intern
Type: Intern, unpaid
Department: Arts Dept / Creative Arts Director
Location: In-Person (Long Island City)
Tentative Schedule: 15-20 hours per week commitment (sometime Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)
Duration: Fall (Sept 1-Dec 15); Spring (Feb 1-May 15); Summer (June 1-Aug 15)

Position Summary: The role of the Arts Program Intern is to help the Arts Department run, advertise, manage, and coordinate programs served to participants. The Intern will maintain an arts community participant contact list as well as a participant referral tracking list. The intern will also call participants to inform them of next steps or general dept information. The intern will also create advertising materials for the department and its programs and events.  
 
Tasks / Primary Responsibilities
§ Call/email participants referred to Arts Dept and collect/distribute information.
§ Create brochures/flyers/infographics to distribute to the public/participants.
§ Coordinate with internal departments to schedule and facilitate 10min informational power point presentations about the services/programs/events the Arts Dept has to offer and present it to participants not yet referred.
§ Attend arts workshops
§ Create and maintain participant referral tracking list (10-12 participants added per month)
§ Maintain a list of arts community contacts
 
Learning Objectives
§ Learning to communicate to a vulnerable population effectively and empathetically.
§ Learn how to manage multiple facets of program/service deployment.
§ Learn tracking techniques to apply in Excel.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
§ Strong communication skills including proven professionalism with cold calling
§ Proficient in PowerPoint and a functional understanding of Excel.
§ Ability to create flyers/graphics using Canva, PowerPoint, or some other design application.
§ Ability to give a PowerPoint presentation virtual or in-person.
§ Must have a strong sense of and willingness towards empathy.
§ Bonus if you are an artist or artistically inclined (not required).
§ Comfortable with talking about sensitive topics with our community members.
§ Must be able to type very quickly and accurately

Additional Requirements
§ Must be 18+ of age
§ Must have a personal laptop/computer with a reliable internet connection
§ Must show proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination (boosters not required to comply with EO47).
