School Culture Advisory (Arts)-VISTA AmeriCorps Program

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Partnership is committed to continuously building an anti-racist culture that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in classrooms and in our home office. The School Culture Advisor will be someone who is excited to keep these values in mind when executing day-to-day tasks and responsibilities.
The AmeriCorps VISTA program provides the opportunity for corps members to make a tangible difference in the biggest challenges facing our nation, including lack of access to education. The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is committed to providing all of our students with a well-rounded education which includes extensive learning in the arts. We are seeking corps members to serve as School Culture Advisors across the network of Partnership schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Each advisor will support their assigned school(s) with arts programming and special events. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Arts Education, school leaders, teachers, and others to create an arts-rich learning environment for students

  • Assist with the planning of a variety of arts events on campus including field trips, presentations, fairs, and school tours

  • Work with school personnel from neighboring schools to create a smooth transition between campuses for students as they progress through their learning in the arts

  • Collect and analyze relevant arts participation and learning data to gauge program success and share that data with stakeholders at the school site

  • Liaise with partners to facilitate on- and off-campus learning opportunities for students and staff

  • Support school staff in planning for student arts celebrations that engage families and the local community

2) Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Understanding of the arts or a specific arts discipline

  • Understanding of Los Angeles arts landscape including nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions, and higher education programs

  • Ability to collaborate to advance arts initiatives within a school setting

  • Ability to present in front of groups of students, teachers, and family members confidently and effectively

  • Ability to create and manage a project plan for a school-wide initiative

  • Ability to create lesson plans, PowerPoints, and other curricular resources
3) Minimum educational level:
  • Bachelors degree required.

4) Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year successful experience in education, the arts, or arts education required

  • Experience working in a public school setting preferred
 
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Employee will be paid according to the AmeriCorps subsistence rate for Los Angeles County: $925.12 biweekly. Education award upon successful completion of service, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Training, Relocation Allowance, Health Coverage, Living Allowance.
