Research Data Associate

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for providing direct data and research support for studies of health policy, health economics, and population health in the Department of Population Healths Section on Health Choice, Policy, and Evaluation. The employee will be part of a team that uses multidisciplinary approaches, particularly behavioral economics, to study how policy and environment affect public health issues among low-income communities and communities of color. Current projects include working with an array of New York City agencies records to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on disparities in childrens' health and well-being, and using national supermarket and restaurant sales data to evaluate the influence of food policies on different groups. The employee will monitor and track study progress, plan and engage in study team meetings, assist with cleaning and processing large quantitative data sets, and work closely with analysts and scientists to determine and fill a range of data and study needs.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Data Preparation Reviews large administrative data, evaluates data quality, checks and prepares data for analysis, highlights data inaccuracies or areas of concern.
  • Writing and Research Reviews scientific literature and writes summaries to answer data- and research-related questions. Conducts searches and prepares literature reviews, and presents results.
  • Research Project Planning Understands full arc of quantitative research projects and contributes to timely progress. Takes accurate study notes, monitors and updates study tracking systems. Assesses team members’ needs and mobilizes resources to solve problems.
  • Research Team Organization Collaborates with data analysts, research scientists and postdocs to develop content of regularly held team meetings, including developing meeting agenda. Responsible for monitoring and reporting regularly to the Principal Investigator and Program Director.
  • Communication Assists with preparation and submission of manuscripts, reports, and presentations for both academic and general audiences.
  • Research Compliance Drafts, updates, and submits necessary documents required by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Sponsored Program Office, funding agencies, and any other appropriate data or research documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate's degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in public health, public policy, economics, statistics, data science, or related quantitative social science/research field, with 2 years relevant work experience. Understanding of quantitative research and statistics. Strong organizational skills.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
