Wealth Management Credit Data Governance Associate

Firm Risk Management
Firm Risk Management (FRM) enables Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.
 
Background on the Position
The role will reside within Firm Risk Management’s Wealth Management Credit Team.
 
Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Credit Officer, Chief Risk Officer & senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.
 
Wealth Management (“WM”) provides a comprehensive array of financial services and solutions to individual investors and small to medium-sized businesses and institutions covering: brokerage and investment advisory services; financial and wealth planning services; stock plan administration services; annuity and insurance products; securities-based lending, residential real estate loans and other lending products; banking; and retirement plan services.
The Data Steward Office is responsible for data strategy within CRM as well as monitoring data quality for WM products. High-quality data is required for effective day-to-day risk management and reporting. This role supports these functions through enforcement of data quality best practices including identification, diagnosis, and resolution of data quality issues across all WM products. 
The successful candidate will maintain working relationships with IT data providers and end-users in a variety of roles. This will include diagnosing data quality issues, executing plans to address them, and designing controls to detect them.
 
Primary Responsibilities
·       Analyze data quality issues raised by users through partnership with colleagues in WM Credit, Firm Risk Management, IT, Operations, and a variety of business units. 
·       Write SQL queries against enterprise databases to generate diagnostic reports showing how data is transformed as it moves though the Morgan Stanley IT infrastructure.
·       Respond to data quality issues reported by end users, identify root causes, and work with IT to execute plans to address them.
·       Work with stakeholders across Risk, BU, Finance, and IT to manage strategic projects that improve processes and data flows
·       Design and monitor controls to detect and prevent data quality issues.
 
Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required 
  • 2 years of work experience (Financial Services or IT preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with ability to communicate effectively with senior management across various teams 
  • Strong prioritization skills with ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment
  • Self-motivated and proactive attitude, with an ability to work independently, if needed
  • Skilled using Excel and databases (SQL, Access or VBA)
