Transform Mid-Atlantic Baltimore City Community College VISTA Success Coach


About AmeriCorps VISTA: AmeriCorps VISTA is a highly competitive and prestigious one-year national service program offered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to fight poverty through community-based projects. Transform Mid-Atlantic AmeriCorps VISTA members who complete a full year of service will receive a bi-weekly living allowance, basic health insurance, ongoing technical and professional development opportunities, an end-of-service education award of over $6,000, a full year of non-competitive eligibility when applying for positions in the federal government, and eligibility for the President's Volunteer Service Award. They will be part of a cohort of over thirty other Transform Mid-Atlantic AmeriCorps VISTA members in the Maryland, DC, and Delaware region.

The Project at BCCC : The VISTA Success Coach Project provides non-tutor support and guidance for identified students so they can begin achieving success inside and outside the classroom at the earliest points in their academic careers with BCCC. Project success will be measured through retention and course completion rates of students who participate in the Project. By the end of the Project, BCCC will have a sustainable Success Coaching Program that is effective in improving the likelihood of course completion, retention, and program completion among the targeted population of students. This Project will assist and guide eligible students enrolling in Modern Elementary Statistics course. The BCCC Success Coach Project will positively impact the success and retention of participating students, improving course pass rates of Modern Elementary Statistics from 51.5% in 2020 by 5% in 2021; 10% in 2022; 14% in 2023.

Member Duties : The CCMA BCCC VISTA Success Coach will perform the following functions: Act as a bridge between Student Affairs and Academic Affairs in supporting student needs; Build rapport with the students they serve; Assist students with maintaining motivation and confidence; Help students identify strengths and weaknesses; Assist students with goal planning and self-accountability to achieve those goals; Connect students to campus and community resources; Monitor student performance within Modern Elementary Statistics course toward achieving the individual student goals and overall CCMA BCCC VISTA Success Coach goals.
