Engineering Graduate Recruiter - 10002292

The Graduate Recruiter is part of the School of Engineering Deans Office at Vanderbilt University. The position will work with other campus administrators, faculty and staff of the Vanderbilt community and also with prospective students, family members, alumni, and friends of the university.The position requires professionalism, tact, and the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. It requires a high level of self-direction and motivation. Strong interpersonal skills to identify students’ academic needs, make recommendations, and follow-up. Demonstrated interest and experience working with diverse student and college populations. The position will function with a degree of understanding of University life, policies, and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and execute graduate and professional student recruitment efforts for programs
  • Direct contact for potential graduate students
  • Represent VUSE programs to prospective graduate students through college fairs and events, visits to universities throughout the US, and various conferences; including evening and weekend events as needed
  • Assist with the coordination and participation of on and off campus visits, meetings, and information sessions with prospective students
  • Responsible for identifying, contacting and maintaining relationships with prospective students; meet candidates, describe programs; advising and facilitating student applications; assisting applicants in completing the admissions process
  • Communicate professionally, effectively, and timely with students in person as well as via telephone, email, online chats, and text
  • Effectively work within our online applications and admissions system (Slate) to track inquiries, applications, acceptances, enrollments, etc. as well as communicate with students
  • Work with the departments, Directors of Graduate Studies, Director of Graduate Recruiting and Graduate Program Coordinators to organize graduate recruiting weekends
  • Develop feeder programs to identify talented prospective students from colleges and universities in the United States and abroad, including partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions
  • Responsible (point of contact) for ENGINE (national engineering name exchange) to collect information from our Undergraduates interested in graduate school, upload that information, and download the data base and screen and distribute to our graduate programs
  • Assist with program organization and identification of potential students for the annual on-campus Pre-VU event focused on minority recruitment
  • Work closely with The Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation to identify top-notch participants in the undergraduate program for graduate recruitment
  • Assist faculty in recruiting the best undergraduates for participation in their research experience for Undergraduates Summer Research programs and Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeships programs
  • Participate in Graduate Development Network meetings at VU
  • Serve as central point of information for GEM, Sloan, SREB, AAUW, NASA, DOD, NSF, ONR, Ford Foundation, FHWA, DOE, NIH and other graduate fellowships
  • Coordinates and hosts student focus groups for ongoing strategic planning initiatives for the School of Engineering

Develops and implements strategies for media relations, publications, and community relations
  • Work closely with the Director of Professional and Master Programs and the VUSE communications team in creating targeted communication, marketing strategies and developing materials
  • Develop sourcing strategies to recruit students through online social networking platforms, college boards, professional networking, local media, videos, and other applicable resources
  • Assist in the promotion of programs at VUSE through the website
  • Assist in the development of communications for brochures as well as any advertising initiatives for promotion of the graduate programs

Provides budgetary management
  • Assists with the budgetary proposal for events or program/service and secures necessary approvals
  • Has responsibility to ensure events or program/service is executed on or under budget
  • Makes purchases and requisitions items needed
  • Studies and adheres to all travel, expense, and One Card policies and procedures

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
  • Availability to work outside the standard work week to occasionally include nights and weekends is necessary
  • Willingness and availability to travel when needed is necessary
  • Demonstrated interest and experience working with diverse populations is necessary
  • 1 - 3 years of experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a higher education/ academic setting is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment and admissions at an accredited college or university with preference to graduate programs is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Requires exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software program
  • Proven track record of converting prospective students to enrolled students
  • Knowledge of post-degree employment opportunities and practices for graduating students
