Operations Assistant

Overview

MASARY Studios seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, organized individual for a role working closely with Studio Manager Grace Fo, supporting the day to day operations needs of MASARY and its studio space, as well as tasks specific to individual MASARY projects to help ensure that logistical needs and key milestones are met successfully. MASARY engages in artistic practices mainly on a commission basis including expressions in multimedia performance, video projection, interactive artworks, technology fabrication and more in the Boston region and nationally. As a company-in-residence of the Lab at Midway Artist Studios, we also make our studio available to creative organizations and individuals in the area for production needs, such as video & photoshoots, rehearsals, performances, and more.
This position will be a part-time position with the title of Operations Assistant.
The ideal candidate has facility in some or most of the skills outlined below. All tasks and responsibilities will be designed and supported by leadership at the studio. As a small but rapidly growing studio, we are looking for the right people to work with as much as we are particular skills and experience.


Skills & Expected Tasks

Project coordination
  • Experience in creative production or project coordination (e.g. public art, theater, or exhibitions), and interest in developing project management skills.
  • Experience working independently and in teams to complete time-sensitive projects with one or more collaborators.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines at once.
  • Some experience with managing project budgets.
  • Familiarity with contract / agreement language between parties, for the purposes of helping to carry-out contractual project obligations.
Project research and administration
  • Researching vendors and suppliers for goods and services associated with specific project needs.
  • Communication with project collaborators for specific events and opportunities with multiple individuals and logistical needs (e.g. video shoots, performances)
  • Support in planning and managing meetings internally and with external collaborators, presenters, commissioners, etc.
  • Support the management and organization of project files.
  • Booking and coordinating travel and lodging for studio members for projects outside of the Boston area.
Studio operations supporting
  • Assist with local and national shipping for projects and studio needs.
  • Supporting use of the studio / Midway Lab by external groups as needed (e.g. meeting users at the start / end of their use period).
  • Supporting the needs of studio members, including but not limited to: helping to coordinate team outings, review project assets or documentation, or providing support where needed on areas of the business that interest you and/or reflect your experience.


Candidate should be / have

  • Strong sense of collaboration and demonstrated ability to be flexible in a fast-changing start-up environment; take direction well in this setting.
  • Strong interest and willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and techniques with regard to scheduling, documentation, and file organization.
  • Their own laptop for use at the studio and at home (all software, access, etc. will be provided).
  • Basic understanding of Google G-Suite.
  • Boston-area based (ability to come into the studio at least once per week; travel to local project sites periodically).
  • Access to reliable transportation (can be public transportation); Driver’s license preferred.
  • Flexibility to shift working hours to accommodate schedule changes and project needs.
  • Ideally able to handle some light physical labor for loading / unloading of vehicles for projects.
  • Laid-back and happy when possible, serious when needed.
  • Is weird, brings their own style / approach to precedented direction / strategies.
  • Committed to studio ethos, artwork, and philosophy, and an interest in growing with us.
  • Interest in new and transdisciplinary arts, in other artists, and contemporary multimedia trends, industries, etc.
  • Interested / committed to media art in general.


Terms and Compensation

Salary: $20-25/hr, 15 hrs/week, commensurate with experience
Terms: a W-2 position with tax withholding by the company. MASARY does not offer health insurance. MASARY does offer a simple IRA (retirement plan) which is offered at 1 year of full time employment.
Schedule: Flexible hybrid schedule developed with the studio team. Presence at the studio for meetings, working sessions, etc. will be required, and some work can happen remotely. Our studio is located in Fort Point, Boston and is accessible by public transportation.
