Public Health Nurse - TB/D.O.T.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide Personal Health Program services within the Community Clinical Services Division of the Kent County Health Department. We currently have a PT and FT position available.


Duties include, contact investigation, care coordination, and medication case management, in addition to providing Direct Observed Therapy (D.O.T) to Kent County residents with active or latent tuberculosis (TB). This individual will also provide information to patients, community members and other healthcare providers regarding TB.

Additional duties may include disease investigation, performing assessments and testing, education, treatment and epidemiological follow-up on reportable communicable diseases for sexually transmitted infections and HIV.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, no weekends, nights or holidays. Will be required to work 10 am – 7 pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.

2022 Starting Wages:  
$27.11 - A Step: Associate Degree in Nursing with 36 months or less experience as a Registered Nurse.
$28.11 - B Step: Associate Degree in Nursing with 37 months to 60 months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
$29.35 - C Step: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 36 months or less of experience as a Registered Nurse; or Associate Degree in Nursing with 61 months or more of experience as a Registered Nurse.
$30.31 - D Step: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 37 months or more experience as a Registered Nurse. 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a National League of Nursing accredited nursing institution and current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. 

Experience in testing and treating TB and sexually transmitted infections desired. HIV certification desired.

Computer literacy, including working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, database management required. Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to be highly efficient while ensuring attention to detail is required. Must interact positively and professionally with internal and external customers, and members of the general public from widely divergent cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to provide client service from a culturally aware and client driven perspective, and deliver excellent customer service to all clients while following HIPAA guidelines is essential. 

Must be able to provide services to clients in a variety of County locations and possess a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and have access to regular transportation.
