Program Coordinator, International Initiatives - Education (Part-Time, End-Dated)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Museum seeks a dynamic individual as the Program Coordinator for International Initiatives, in the Academic and Professional Programs Division of Education. The successful candidate is responsible for providing full administrative support for all aspects of our International Initiatives, including staff exchanges, visiting international scholars, and a particular focus over the next three years on the Michael C. Rockefeller African Museum Partnership Program (AMPP). The AMPP will create professional development bridges between the MMA and several African Museums with the preparations leading up to the reopening of the new Wing in 2025. Working closely with the Manager for the Indian Conservation Fellowship Program, this position supports the development, implementation and operations for a series of three scholar residencies for senior figures working in the culture sector in Africa and three intern/trainees to assist with the comprehensive reinstallation of the permanent collection of the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing and its’ conceptual reframing of the works presented in the galleries. This position works collaboratively with staff in the MRW and visiting international scholars throughout the Education Department and the Museum.

This is a part-time, 3 days a week role.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • At the direction of the Manager of the ICFP, provide administrative support for our international initiatives, preparation of contracts and award letters, coordinating the onboarding of scholars and general logistics for visiting researchers, exchange participants and Museum staff.
  • Help coordinate the partnerships with other participating museums, cultural and educational institutions.
  • Coordinate AMPP program timeline to ensure that all program needs are met.
  • Coordinate the AMPP application process. Support visa acquisition processes as needed.
  • Conduct routine correspondence with all applicants, scholars and staff regarding the program parameters and requirements.
  • Organize and arrange travel for visiting scholars on the AMPP, including housing arrangements, airline tickets, and local travel while in the US.
  • Monitor and maintain budgets, prepare and process invoices, and track expenses.
  • Prepare internally and externally facing program communications for publicity purposes.
  • Liase with Met Museum staff and coordinate activities across Museum departments, most significantly with MRW, Education, and Curatorial.
  • Administer logistics for special events related to the AMPP such as workshops and presentations.
  • Provide additional administrative support for Academic and Professional Programs staff on related international scholarship programs.
  • Coordinate internal and external correspondence and overall maintenance of files, and mailing lists related to international initiatives
  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a disability, sincerely held religious belief, or pregnancy, or because you are a victim of domestic violence, stalking, or sex offenses).

Experience and Skills:

  • 2-3 years of administrative experience, particularly in a cultural heritage environment, international museum experience preferred;
  • Outstanding communication and writing skills;
  • Capable of independent work, multitasking and managing time on concurrent projects;
  • Excellent organizational and budget management skills;
  • Cultural sensitivity in correspondence and personal contacts with scholars from around the world required;
  • Experience with international projects or outreach preferred
  • Familiarity working abroad preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.

Knowledge and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, required (MA, preferred) in art history, museum administration, management or international relations
  • Knowledge of art history and visual culture, arts administration, education or related field, preferred, A knowledge of African and African art history and archaeology a plus
  • Language proficiency beyond English is preferred (especially French);
  • Full command of the Microsoft Office Suite and solid computer skills, required.
  • Professional competence with word processing, Excel, social media, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and museum-related database
