Upper School Head Robotics Coach

Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 535 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 112-acre campus, seeks a (part-time) Robotics teacher for Upper School. This position will work with students after school hours and on weekends as needed. The anticipated time commitment is roughly 410 hours, not including competitions, with the weekly time commitment varying greatly depending on the time of year. During the build season, in January and February, the team will meet at least three hours after school and 15-20 hours on weekends. In March and April the commitment will be more like twice a week for two or three hours after school. The rest of the year will likely be once a week for two to three hours. The new head coach will help determine the exact schedule after they are hired. Professional Qualifications
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • An undergraduate degree in related field of education, engineering, computer science, or related field is required; a graduate degree is preferred

Duties
  • Report to Director of Upper School
  • Organize and monitor the high school FIRST Robotics team.
  • Serve as a liaison between team members, mentors, parents, and volunteers while communicating expectations to parents and students.
  • Inspect and maintain all equipment, overseeing the issuance and collection of equipment.
  • Communicate with sponsoring organizations, purchasing supplies, registering for competitions, creating schedules and team building.
  • Facilitate the team building a robot that can accomplish the team's desired missions.
  • Access partnerships with business/community to garner mentors and funding opportunities.
  • Manage team budgeting, fundraising, and purchasing.
  • Inspire and lead students in science, technology, engineering, and math through establishing goals and timelines.
  • Ensure all youth have an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the project.
  • Establish ground rules to provide a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Additional duties as deemed necessary by the School.
 
The salary range for this position is $10,000-$15,000/year. Compensation is commensurate with experience, relevant skills, and number of sections being taught. This position is not eligible for benefits. .
