Job Purpose
Director of Website Development for the College of Charleston website plans, creates and develops a creative, modern, sophisticated, intuitive, branded and accessible customer-focused user experience across the College of Charleston website and other digital platforms that support the strategic recruitment and retention goals of the university. Leads the development of website strategies, and manages their implementation from concept development to navigation, general functionality, search engine optimization, quality assurance, final execution, and ongoing maintenance. Partners with multiple stakeholders across the university to ensure the customer journey is optimized.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and three years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience related to web and mobile design, search engine optimization best practices, and other digital platforms. Significant experience with, knowledge of, and demonstrated mastery of all phases of the creative process of web and digital communication design, development and production. Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products, HTML, CSS, Cascade CMS, WordPress, Google Analytics, Google Ads, experience with accessibility tools and knowledge of WCAG 2.x, and the most up-to-date programs, techniques and trends. Some leadership/supervisory experience is a plus. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to lead all phases of the processes required to create and maintain a modern, responsive, functional, accessible, customer-friendly web experience throughout a complex website. Experience integrating data from various backend services, and building inbound organic search traffic and improving SERPs. Understanding of modern performance marketing concepts and digital marketing practices, and the ability to translate these into effective websites for digital communications and advertising campaigns. Ability to work closely with creative teams and web programmers/engineers responsible for web development and routine maintenance. Ability to manage projects and work well with others in a team environment and under deadline pressure.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Employee must be able to lead, direct, manage and interact well with people under pressure of multiple deadlines, and be able to serve as an informational resource for campus constituencies as appropriate.

Job Duties
Activity
Leads a team responsible for the creation and implementation of websites, mobile and digital marketing campaigns and programs, that have an impact on the College’s efforts to recruit and retain high-level, diverse students to the institution. Directs and manages all elements of website creation that deliver a customer-centric user experience covering multiple web and mobile touchpoints. Responsible for delivering digital marketing solutions for large and complex problems centered around the university’s recruiting and retention efforts. Collaborates with campus leadership and key internal constituents to plan and execute an engaging, accessible and performance-based online content strategy, and digital campaigns that help the institution, and campus divisions and departments, meet enrollment, retention and student-satisfaction goals and objectives.

Activity Leads efforts to transform marketing insights into informed, user-centric, accessible website marketing design decisions. Researches, tests, evaluates and recommends emerging media, content technologies and enhancements that can increase traffic and customer engagement with the College. Partners with campus leadership and other teams to develop strategies that will improve conversion and web traffic metrics. Develops plans to maximize the user experience through SEM, SEO, SERPs, landing-page and conversion optimization, mobile, social and remarketing techniques. Uses analytical tools to evaluate the end-to-end customer experience across multiple touchpoints.

Activity As leader of an in-house web development team, gathers and synthesizes the information required to create web-based and other digital marketing solutions for the university. Establishes processes for troubleshooting website issues in a timely manner. Creates timeframes and schedules to meet deadlines and provides feedback and guidance on web and digital marketing performance expectations.

Activity Based on a clear understanding of customer perspectives, expectations and the user experience, makes decisions about the most effective creative concepts for websites as they relate to electronic marketing campaigns that are used to recruit students to the College. Provides expert advice and guidance to areas of the institution in the successful use of modern, branded, multi-media marketing concepts to help them create an effective and branded user journey that is optimized based on data and user insights.

Activity Tracks, analyzes and reports website analytics, data and user experience to identify trends and insights in order to achieve maximum ROI in digital advertising campaigns and marketing initiatives. Establishes metrics and dashboards that monitor key digital marketing metrics and identifies areas of growth and opportunity.
