Assistant Principal for Academics and Operations

Saint Mary’s High School in Manhasset is seeking a full-time Assistant Principal for Academics and Operations to join its Administrative Team. Saint Mary’s is a Catholic, co-educational high school focused on shaping the intellectual, spiritual and moral lives of our students.  The ideal candidate has a dedication to Catholic education, as well as willingness to help St. Mary’s grow to meet the ever-evolving needs of 21st century students.
 
The Assistant Principal will work with the Principal and the President to advance the mission of St. Mary’s High School by sharing in the development of curriculum, mentoring and evaluating teachers, and creating a faith-centered environment that fosters the growth of our students. We do this important work in partnership with the parents of our students, the clergy, the wider St. Mary’s community, and our patroness, the Blessed Mother. Through these relationships, we fulfill our motto - Omnia ad Jesum per Mariam.
 
General Description
Saint Mary’s is seeking a student-centered, collaborative, and innovative leader to become the Assistant Principal for Academics and Operations. The Assistant Principal must have the ability to accurately compile and assess data, summarize information, and provide reports to the community, as well as to lead the faculty and students in a way that fully embraces the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. The Assistant Principal is directly accountable to the Principal. This is a 12- month position. 
 
Responsibilities for the Assistant Principal include, but are not limited to:
 
Procedural
●      Serve as the administrative head in the absences of the Principal or President
●      Supervise Campus Security and emergency procedures
●      Schedule and oversee lockdown, evacuation, and fire drills
●      Oversee and evaluate school nurses
●      Supervise club moderators
●      Provide general oversight of student discipline with assistance from faculty
●      Develop and implement school policy for field trips, assemblies, and guest speakers
●      Coordinate with office staff for faculty coverages and absences
●      Manage annual review and revision of student handbook and calendar with faculty and staff
●      Serve as liaison for uniform and cafeteria services
 
 
 
Curriculum and Instruction
●      Teach one class in subject area
●      Work with the Principal and Department Chairpersons to observe and evaluate teachers
●      Preparation of all data files for NYS Regents Exams
●      Develop, review, and revise grading policies in conjunction with the Principal, the Academic Council, and the Guidance Department
●      Conduct meetings with parents of students who are academically at-risk
●      Promote and recommend professional development opportunities for faculty
●      Work with interested faculty on creating in-house professional development programs
●      Selection and recognition of Honors list; distribution of lists to elementary schools and parishes
●      Collaborate with Business Office and Guidance Department regarding report card and transcript holds
 
Committees
●      COVID-19 Coordinator (working in conjunction with the school nurses)
●      Chairperson of the School Safety Committee
●      Oversight of Testing Committee - responsible for midterms, finals, and NYS Regents Exams
●      Member of the Academic Council, Administrative Team, and Admissions Committee
●      Lead and/or serve on other committees as needed
 
Qualifications
●       Master’s Degree in Education or Area of Study
●       NYS School Building Leader certification or currently working towards certification
●       5 - 7 years of secondary teaching experience; administrative experience preferred
●       Practicing Roman Catholic with a personal commitment to Catholic mission in education
