Under limited direction and reporting the Controller, the Accounting Manager will coordinate and oversee all of the Institute’s daily Accounts Payable and Payroll functions to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations.
The Accounting Manager will have primary responsibility for ensuring all accounts payable and payroll accounting functions are appropriately and timely completed. Additional duties may be assigned under guidance of the Controller including general ledger reconciliation and monthly closing. Will review and approve payroll reports, bi-weekly payroll submissions, reconciliation of taxes and benefits to the General Ledger, accounts payable vouchers, review of cash disbursements, various review of balance sheet accounts and reconciliations, and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Will identify staffing needs and available expertise, provide leadership and mentoring to all department staff and work with Controller and the Human Resources Department as needed on performance evaluations, training and development of staff.


Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field and 4-6 years of directly related progressively responsible accounting management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Requires a minimum of 2 years of previous personnel management.
Must have previous demonstrated experience overseeing the operations of accounting teams including accounts payable and payroll departments.
Requires previous experience effectively leading a large team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and the ability to prioritize departmental functions and responsibilities to meet deadlines and goals. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous success in developing professional and effective relationships with both administrative and non-administrative managers and colleagues, and the ability to effectively communicate financial needs to Institute leadership.
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy and discretion; excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills; and strong customer-service skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical, as well as the ability to perform duties independently.
