Overview

Under limited direction and reporting to the Director of Financial Operations, the Director of Project Support will oversee the Project Analysis team, working closely with the analysts and various departments to provide project guidance for financial performance.
 
The Director will have primary responsibility for working with a variety of stakeholders with relation to budget, invoicing, and management of projects from initiation to delivery to ensure all targets and requirements are met, and projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Will work with and provides guidance to Scientists and other business units/leaders in the development of proposals and budgets, and establishes, tracks and monitors project schedules, deliverables & milestones to ensure that project goals are accomplished, and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
 
Will communicate with sponsors on project schedules, status and deliverables. Maintain and update project schedules as needed and communicates changes to schedules to ensure customer deadlines are met.
 
Will identify staffing needs and available expertise, provide leadership and mentoring to all department staff, direct the recruiting and selection process for all departmental positions, and work with the Human Resources Department as needed on performance evaluations, training and development of staff.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, management or a related field and 7-10 years of directly-related progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from with comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Requires a minimum of 2 years of previous personnel management experience.
 
Knowledgeable of and experienced with all aspects of financial project management, including: industry methods, tools, process standardization, project metrics, cost tracking, reports, project management templates, experience with federal billing requirements and reporting. Areas of responsibility include managing project analysis team, projects following a lifecycle methodology and PMI Standards; performing analysis of existing policies, processes, standards and monitoring mechanisms; fulfilling responsibilities in all categories as agreed to with the business sponsor: scope, WBS structure, schedule, budget, quality, and risks.
 
Requires previous experience effectively leading a large team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and the ability to prioritize departmental functions and responsibilities to meet deadlines and goals. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous success in developing professional and effective relationships with both administrative and non-administrative managers and colleagues, and the ability to effectively communicate financial needs to Institute leadership. Must have previous demonstrated success managing project management functions at a similar organization.
 
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy and discretion; excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills; and strong customer-service skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical, as well as the ability to perform duties independently.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
