Vice President Lead Credit Risk Officer - Consumer

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Credit Risk Vice Presidents lead the origination and portfolio management of investment grade and high yield Consumer & Retail companies. VP's are expected to lead the structuring and underwriting of new lending activities, analyze and approve other credit requests, facilitate regulatory monitoring, and perform on-going portfolio monitoring. In each capacity, the Credit team works in partnership with Global Corporate Banking, Syndicated Leveraged Finance, Investment Banking Coverage, and many other product partners to meet the needs of clients. Due to the industry dynamics, this is an opportunity to work on a high volume of transactions, in a fast paced and highly competitive environment. 

To be successful, this individual needs to develop a broad and deep understanding of the business, financial, competitive, and industry risks faced by clients in the assigned portfolio. The associate will report to an ED or MD level manager and would be supported in day to day work by a dedicated team of analysts and associates. The VP will be expected to play an important role in mentoring and developing junior talent to enhance the performance of the broader team.

Specific duties include:
1. Risk Assessment
+ Identify the key risk factors associated with clients, transactions, and industry sub-sectors across an assigned portfolio
+ Develop and articulate a dynamic, forward-looking risk assessment of client companies, transactions, competitive threats, industry and other factors
+ Lead and/or participate in client due diligence meetings as necessary
+ Attend client, bank, and other meetings to develop a better understanding of client companies, management teams, and industry sectors
+ Use financial models to incorporate the impact of forward-looking risk assessment on key value drivers
+ Develop and recommend appropriate credit structures relative to risk assessment

2. Credit Approval Process
+ Apply corporate finance and accounting expertise to develop appropriate financing structures
+ Prepare and review credit approval materials, ensure all credit risk policies are followed, and present and recommend credits for approval at the appropriate level
+ Analyze and negotiate covenants and other terms and conditions as part of a deal team
+ Review and negotiate legal documentation to ensure terms are appropriate and consistent with credit approval

3. Portfolio Management
+ Provide a well-researched and thoughtful risk assessment of each assigned client on an ongoing basis
+ Ensure risk ratings are accurate and reflect a current forward-looking view of the client
+ Provide early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations
+ Analyze, prepare, and present for approval all required waivers, amendments, and extensions
+ Prepare and present quarterly financial snapshot of portfolio
+ Prepare and present annual portfolio review material to senior management
4. Leadership
+ Assist in training and developing analysts
+ Work with bank examiners and internal credit reviewers to validate credit quality and integrity of the credit process
+ Work closely with analysts and our middle office and data teams to ensure accuracy of credit system data
+ Present new transactions as well as quarterly and annual portfolio monitoring metrics to senior management

Qualifications:
• Superior credit, lending, negotiation, loan documentation, and financial modeling skills
• Interest in client interaction with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work well in a fast paced team environment
• Independently productive; able to operate at a highly effective level with minimal day-to-day managerial direction
• Ability to perform well under pressure in a demanding environment managing multiple tasks at the same time
• Strong attention to detail and an excellent work ethic
• Completion of a major commercial/investment bank credit training program or equivalent experience, and a thorough understanding of bank credit policies and procedures
• 5-10 years of commercial/investment banking lending experience including extensive credit, structuring, and marketing. Experience working with leveraged clients and/or Retail & Consumer clients is preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• BA/BS degree is required, MBA is a plus
